Silence | Stefn Sylvester Anyatonwu

POEM 291: SILENCE I read her eyes like paragraphs of unspoken words bereft of punctuation, her tears flow from the top of the page to the bottom of the same for she have not much to say with words her tears is a stream of roaring silence. Beautiful as it seems, this silence of hers, voice in a deep sleep, lost in groanings unheard for she have not much to say with words her tears is a stream of roaring silence. #365DaysOfPoetry #Pengician #SSA Enjoyed reading? For The Girl Child | Stefn Sylvester Anyatonwu

POEM 282: GIRL CHILD (for the international day of the girl child) to star on her hero stages other than scar her beautiful what sin is it? to wish our girls what I wish our boys what sin is it? to sing same solemn songs to her, which we whisper to our boys what sin is it? to pray the sun into her moon and equal her pink with our blue what sin is it? to remind our boys she's human before a girl what sin is it? to enhance her voice and not shadow her existence what sin is it? #365DaysOfPoetry #Pengician #SSA Enjoyed reading? Night Is A Woman | Chukwu, Emmanuel C

NIGHT IS A WOMAN Sometimes, you may not understand, Why you wake up to a familiar touch, Yet having no memory of falling asleep. You're asking your mother of this warmth when, You seek after this woman. Today, she is with you and in you; wearing black, You're leaving your house and, Moving outside your body to search for her. You're trying to figure this colour which, Hides this woman from you. You may call her an illusion for, The many facets she has. You spell her name in dreams just, Like your father who wore this woman in love. This woman holds stillness in her voice, And in her arms you live in a still form, Just the way you crave your mother. Night is no doubt a woman who, Speaks of God in his goodness, And you are her child, Tracing this Psalms in your body. - Chukwu, Emmanuel.  A Nigerian, poet and a medic who uses his writing to care for humanity Enjoyed reading? Of Misogyny and Whatever | Stefn Sylvester Anyatonwu

POEM 170: OF MISOGYNY AND WHATEVER In the world of man, the other has no say, It's an ancient ritual, she bears the blame. Wasn't Eden immaculate before she splashed the stain? So he stands saint like a paradox of pain! From faith, to fear, to what she should She's made to believe to be God's afterthought. They point her to man-made Talmud and smear history on her face like sooth to clay pot. Is she destined to live in denial of her existence? Why lock her in a cage of your own pretense? Why tongue-cheeky powwow and knot your front tails into a bow? She's a being equal! Not licked up from the ground of God's afterthought! She's a soul equal! Not a stain on your bloated ego! She's equal! Not a blight in your dim eyes! She's equal! Not a threat to your clay throne! She's equal! ...let that sink, man.  😂 #365DaysOfPoetry #Pengician #SSA Click HERE to Download SSA mobile app for Android Phones and get instant access to poems, writing tools and Po...

Featured Poem: Cry No More Child - Martins Deep

CRY NO MORE CHILD   "You were born after rain" you were told by the grown ups that buried your umbilical cord Pointing you to a group of plantain trees in the backyard.   This is your birth story   Cradled safely in her arms She baptised you In the Jordan of her tears Whilst the priest watched on vainly with holy water At the throes of mother.   Moonless night and dateless it was Life was sorry for such tragic role In the scripts you were called to play by the thunders that rumbled And the night birds that mourned.   You grew gracefully like palm fronds. Measured your height with the tall bamboo standing on your toes. Your fingers turned green from keeping cassava plantations.   Life kissed hard your cracked lips That bled juju lyric For the spirited drummers in your chest. Songs themed with courage and hope as you paddled on the limpopo With savoury tales for whoever cared to listen.   Your tattered clothe on colt back Saddled by...

Home Wherever - Stefn Sylvester Anyatonwu

POEM 113: HOME WHEREVER Crestfallen She walks alone Her tears Her fears She both implode Who would believe her tale if told? Who would believe this warmth is cold? She knows home is just a stone throw But the chip's fallen Off she dashes into the woods Where flowering trees and fruitless thorns May pierce her bare soul until it bursts Into a shower of tears she cannot hoard. In the aching tranquility of her wounds Homes wherever her sole once trod Homes the distant thoughts her mind do roam When his cuddles feels like a bed of stone. #365DaysOfPoetry #Pengician #SSA

Featured Poem: Letter From An Aborted Child - by Simplicity

LETTER FROM AN ABORTED CHILD To-be but couldn't-be Mother!  do you know how it feels To thrust a hot iron into the heart of one that's how much pain I feel For you didn't just end my life but also shattered my dreams.  Is it my Fate to end this way Or there is no other way I could live Perhaps I mistakenly got into you I wanted the best life for us to fulfil my dreams and I craved  for a mother who would be my backbone instead , you detached me from your bone You whispered that minute You can't wait to have me removed  because I bring shame to you  that a life without me is best Mother, I found warmth in your womb I cling to you because I love you Even though you detest the signs of me When God gave me the news that I'm going into the world I asked Him to reduce your pains to make me as beautiful as you and to bring comfort to our lives You brought me so much aches though you'll always be my mother Mama, should I try again Not fulfilled dream I've got on my ...

On Lies, Rape and Threats - Stefn Sylvester Anyatonwu

On Lies, Rape and Threats What lie do you tell your conscience when truth pleaded on knees bended? Have you managed to deceive it too? How do you curve your lips when in betrayal kiss the innocent girl kid? Have you managed to twist the tale? What more harm? How many more? When, oh heartless man will you conquer the demons?

My Vero

MY VERO My Vero, in you I've found the perfect friend Someone I'm sure will be there till the end It is not just a thought I hope to fulfill The sweet memories you embed in my heart, are thoughts that will stand forever still even after earth meets its prime. My Vero, As the wind on a hot summer day So is your friendship that you never betray. As the still image in a photograph so is your breathless, silent laugh. As the stars in the night sky, so is your warm embrace. Within you, I've found the perfect friend A mind that I can comprehend A person I see is so much like me A mutual relationship so carefree, mutual, genuine and divine. My Vero, my vine. My Vero, child who questions the world My Vero, the scream that goes unheard in the wilderness of sages. Carefree as an adult blessed with a dream Carefree as water flowing downstream - fresh for ages. Within you, I've found the perfect friend With whom I can be real, and never pretend. You've always been someone uniqu...

I Was There All The Time

POEM 59: I WAS THERE ALL THE TIME It's been a while,  oh daughter of lights You've been searching for peace  in some void. Woods with the hunter forest boy Desert with a peasant Arabian boy Glaciers with a savage Eskimo You've searched in seasons harsh You've searched in seasons mild Nothing found Void still spans... But I was there all the time Waiting in line. Then and now,  oh Lady of lights You've been trying to blame all your ills on this crazy world you're in. Groans for moans Forced smiles and honest cries. Selfish, your desires are Surface deep, your eyes are Searching in shallow highs Treasures that layers below hides. Nothing found Void still spans... But I was there all the time Waiting in line. See how pale you look Oh lady of lights You've been used And taken for a ride These tears that now crawl From your eyes to my eardrum Would've ne'er break you If only you knew I was there all the time Waiting in line. Patiently Silently  I prayed y...

Sad Poem

POEM 23: SAD POEM This poem begins with a sigh dangling from line one. It crawls down the next line on bleeding knees  and chopped fingers Dripping tears on blood stained stairs. This poem is the shadow that lurks behind close doors counting ceiling. A crying beauty, she is. Bent like an old lady Broken like glass panes. Those arrows,  they pieced through her heart with the speed of a dart and punctuated her life with an exclamation mark! But none heard her cries. This poem stinks like decaying brains in the skulls of abuse She was a tool to be used by Buhari, by Bolaji, by Bruse. This poem is the leftover Of Bisi's battered body Her petals trampled upon by an phallus  uncouth. This poem ends with a sigh a suicide note a girl dangling from the ceiling

It's Dark In Here

It's dark in here She's in a sea of dark She doubts She fears It's dark in here She thinks strange things Which she dare not tell Lest her soul fly And her body die. It's dark in here She's been through hell. Aye! She lives in hell So believe her When she looks into fire ...and grin. It's dark in here Her reflection gets clearer In a pool of her tears Sending ripples of influence in her circle of friends... It's dark in here... So believe her when she smiles and wraps you in warm embrace though in pain. #365Poems #Pengician #SSA

Hang The Rapist: A True Rape Story

'Who be the bagga wey rape you?' She was obviously furious, clench fist ready to punch the rapist right on the face if opportune. I giggled and gestured to a seat.  'Please sit down. 'tis a thing of the past and I got over it' 'Didn't really knew guys could be raped' she said whilst sitting down.  'I had a friend who was raped too. A guy. But he refuses to talk about it' 'The society would not believe such tales. Fables! They'll say and laugh it off. Humans are unwise like that' 'I'm so sorry' I sighed and looked away.  'You're brave, man. You opening up has inspired me to tell my tale' I adjusted my glasses and stared at her. 'You too?' 'Funny right? Yes, even me...I hope you, maybe share it without including my name. I don't have such bravery as you.' I urged her spill it 'Well, I was young, very young. Can't remember how old but I know I was just developing, maybe 12 or 13. I just...
