New Book Alert | Pun Poetry Anthology

A pun is a play on words which usually centres on a word with more than one meaning or the replacement of a homonym that changes the meaning of the sentence for humorous or rhetorical effect. It is produced by using a word that suggests two or more meanings or by exploiting similar sounding words having different meanings. The ambiguities arise mostly in homophones and homonyms. Humorous effects created by puns depend upon the obscurities words involve.  Pun Poetry Anthology is a collection of poems that passed the final stages of the Pun Poetry Contest organised by ACEworld Publishers and Poemify Publishers.  On behalf of ACEworldPublishers and Poemify Publishers, I appreciate everyone that participated in the contest and congratulate the select poets whose play on words made it to the anthology. Poems and Contributors: 1. Eden's Garden by Ogbonnaya Joel Nwanneka 2. For You (Abraharm) by David Seventhy-eight Psalmist 3. Pun, Not Porn by Olanrewaju Adam Oluwatobi 4. Noah’s E...

Call for Submission | AfriChant Anthology

The poet finds himself on this side of heaven called Africa and deeply falls in love with her. He embraces society with its ills and believes in the power of his ink to administer a panacea. Among all the different dimensions of pain that provokes his muse to action is the African child who is; Unloved, uncared for. Dying and turning into a wild beast. A beast now hunted down, sadly. Starved and denied of the necessities of life being subjected to hardship. Deprived of quality education Left with no cultural heritage, left with half-baked legends and tales of ancient times in history books etc AfriChant is an attempt to bring hope and teach society responsibility. AfriChant is an anthology driven with the spirit of Africa and the sorrows of the African child seeking explanation for all the wars going in and around him.  Poetry is the selected genre of literature employed to address this menace staring too long into our faces. Contemporary poets in Nigeria are hereby summoned to sh...

eBook: Diary of a Broken Poet

Diary of a Broken Poet is more than just a collection of poems written by the author on issues that affect him and us. This collection is a discourse between the poet and his readers, an intimate conversation which unveils the 'beingness' of the author and his unique perspective of life and living. In the age where focus is on how words are metaphorized into some extended discordance, where clamour is for “depth”, which is often devoid of feeling or emotion, it is a relief to read poems that pour from the soul and being of the poet!  Stefn is not about style or some esoteric conceit; he is about connection, about sharing personal experiences that resonate with the universal. His expression, sensuous, conversational, musical, and mirthic, does not undermine the profound poetic richness of the poems. If you seek love and heart break, the ‘broken poet’ shares with the readers felt experiences. Issues like faith, religion, politics, and social realities are not left out of this bea...

Book Launch Alert! "Sweetness"

On several occasions, while sweetness lasted, friends and fans asked the following questions: "Hey Stefn, who's Sweetness?" "What's this Sweetness thing about?" Sweetness is an affectionate name for someone I once loved. She was everything sweet, so much I grin like a happy lad along with the elongated blink of her small eyes, while pouting out her lips slightly for kisses we ne'er had.  She gave me butterflies flowers were jealous of, because they've never-since creation- attracted such rainbow tinted butterflies. Sweetness was a powerful verbal aphrodisiac that calmed my nerves when hurt becomes bitter...and should’ve been used sparingly! But I took an overdose of her; so much poems oozed from every pore of me while Sweetness lasted. ‘Sweetness’, a collection of 43 poems was birthed from a series of poems I scribbled while swimming in the ripple effect of a sweetness overdose. Like y'all know, Stefn wouldn't serve sour wine, right? This ...

Book Launch: I Hate Love Stories - Anthology by Odetokun Elijah Olasunkanmi and Yusuf Balogun Gemini

Of all stories, the most told and widely read are love stories but what happens when some rogue boys hate love stories? Odetokun Elijah Olasunkanmi and Yusuf Balogun Gemini present a joint anthology titled 'I Hate Love Stories'  'I Hate Love Stories'   is a chapbook of 20 poems.  You wouldn't want to miss this for anything. Grab yourself a copy if you want to know why these two rogue boys ' Hate Love Stories'  Why would a person say they hate love stories? Would it be because of a bad experience in love? This was the first thing that came to my mind as I began to read these poems.  Gemini writes of “Rotten Carrion”, a phrase which smacks of dead things that attract vultures. It leads one to think of having had a really unproductive relationship which produced feelings of wishing for the protective covering of the grave. Much has been spoken of the kind of love that ends up with two distraught people; Shakespeare’s love stories are ones which end often i...

Press Release: Book Launch of “Quills from Africa 30: Long Walk to Home” and the Freedom Magazine Second Edition.

They told us that Nigerians are the worst of Africa, so we told them our own stories. -  Hatfield, Pretoria, 30 th  of November 2017 Today it’s Libya, it was xenophobia and death for 26 Nigerian women who attempted to cross the ocean, now buried in Italy. There is only anger and hate for this black nation, we have given Africa the bad name it bears. That’s how the news reports it; the story told by the world and Africans have become little more than inanimate objects on news headlines. There is no voice to show that in Africa and indeed Nigeria still lies humanity, compassion, a desperate desire to thrive like any other. This is why thirty young Nigerians have dedicated their waking hours to crafting stories that would bring you closer to home. If this happens in ripples, if more Africans find one voice and a single heart, then the black man can be remade, capturing the heart of this fearful earth. The stories are simple, they share with you moments and glimpses into hearts no...
