POEM 145: NIGERIA
She is like a beautiful woman with an ugly heart,
alluring yet difficult to love.
She draws you in with kisses
and knocks you out with hurtful words.
She is like a candlelight
glowing in a dark continent
casting dancing shadows off our disunity
and when she burns out
burns down the town
upon which she stood to shine.
She is the sad tale that makes headlines
and leaves sighs on brave hearts.
She's the giant portrait of an old lady
Cranky
Angry
Weary
Standing before a mirror on the wall
but sees a reflection that isn't hers.
She's the lie we live daily.
