POEM 261: DOORS AND WALLS
Incoming and outgoing,
cabbage and garbage,
everything and anything,
ever swinging on dry hinges
to let out and let in:
doors
But son, you're a wall
Firm standing and unshaken,
Deep rooted and unwavering,
Push or pull,
Sunshine or dew.
Don't envy the door
All may seem well
In the gleeful pretentious swinging;
But he who stands firm
Shall live above existing.
Don't swing, son; stand.
With love, dad.
